Demon’s Souls Remake Dev Appears To Be Quietly Denying Sony Acquisition Rumors
Sony’s been making some intriguing moves as of late, with the PlayStation company announcing late last month that it had acquired Returnal developer Housemarque. Interestingly enough, on that same day a separate image leaked from Sony suggesting that the company had also acquired Demon’s Souls Remake developer Bluepoint Games, though there’s been no word since confirming or denying the slip-up. In the meantime, Bluepoint has begun to make some subtle changes to its social media profile presenting itself as a fully independent studio.
Following the recent ‘leak’ of what appeared to be confirmation of Sony’s acquisition of Bluepoint Games, the latter company has made some changes to its public profiles to re-confirm its independence. One such example of this is the Demon’s Souls Remake developer’s Twitter page. “Bluepoint Games is a fully independent self-funded studio,” reads the social media bio. The bit about it being “fully independent” was added in between now and after the below picture was dropped by an official Sony source.
As for what this could mean, it’s possible that Sony has been in talks to acquire Bluepoint Games but nothing’s been finalized yet, and the wrong image was simply sent out ahead of its time. This could also have a decidedly negative effect on negotiations between the two companies given that Sony appears to have jumped the gun, so to speak. Either way, it’s likely we’ll hear an official confirmation – if one is coming – within the next couple of weeks.
