Jim Henson’s ‘The Dark Crystal’ & ‘The Labyrinth’ Board Games Now Available!

If you’re a fan of Jim Henson’s insanely magical worlds experienced through The Dark Crystal and The Labyrinth, then you’re in luck! Both amazingly beloved stories are now available to experience in an all new way – through tabletop! Interested? Here’s what you need to know!

The Dark Crystal Board Game:Jim Henson absolutely knocked it out of the park with The Dark Crystal. He created a classic story while absolutely terrifying us as children with how some of these creatures look. If that doesn’t make you remember a movie, nothing will. Now you can relive those memories with the board game based off the movie. Just, hopefully, without the hiding behind the couch the first time you saw a skeksis.

Will Jen and Kira manage to find the Shard and heal the Dark Crystal? You can watch the movie and find out, or you can play a game with up to three other people. Or both! We like both.

The Labyrinth Board Game:

dark crystal

We can barely write this without wiping away a tear, even though we love making jokes about David Bowie, 1980’s hair, tight pants, and spinning crystal balls.

Ground Control to Major Tom: we’ll try to keep it together.

Now, board game fans can honor Bowie’s memory and their favorite 80’s fantasy puppet opera, with a cooperative board game by Alessio Cavatore. In Jim Henson’s Labyrinth Board Game, you can play as Sarah, Hoggle, Ludo, or Sir Didymus, and work together to rescue baby Toby from the Jareth, the Goblin king.

Cavatore designed the cooperative game for one-to-four players, but a fifth player can act as Jareth himself, and work against the others to keep the baby for himself.

The pieces are beautifully sculpted 3D models of the characters. Gameplay involves 13 turns – one for each hour that Sarah has to find her brother – and an assortment of magical adventures through the labyrinth and then through the castle itself. The Goblin Expansion adds some optional rules for more excitement!

Play time runs at roughly an hour. Dancing puppets not included.
