Cyberpunk 2077 Save Files Can Corrupt After Hitting 8MB

Cyberpunk 2077 Save

The release of Cyberpunk 2077 had been ramping up for all of 2020 after several delays, and while many players are enjoying the game, a significant amount of users have been experiencing a level of bugs that make the game nearly unplayable. This level of defectiveness has led to unprecedented moves by Sony and Microsoft, allowing for refunds of digital purchases of the game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. CD Projekt Red continues to work on new updates that will address the long list of bugs that need addressing, but in that search, a new bug has been discovered that essentially limits Cyberpunk 2077 save files to 8MB.

CD Projekt Red has addressed the new Cyberpunk 2077 save file corruption issue on GOG website’s support section. Some users had noticed their save data being corrupted, to which GOG confirmed that it could not be recovered and suggested using an older save file. It would seem that the save files are essentially capped at 8MB. If they surpass that, they run the risk of overwriting important data which makes the file unplayable. CD Projekt Red has stated that they intend to increase the file size limit in the future, but even at that point, corrupted save data cannot be fixed.

CD Projekt Red has also suggested that a way to prevent corrupted Cyberpunk 2077 save files is to keep the amount of items and crafting materials owned by the player small. Crafted items in particular seem to grow the file sizes immensely, according to players that have tested this as a theory and corroborated their results. The Cyberpunk 2077 launch has been riddled with bugs and issues, and this only adds more wood to that particular trash fire. Hopefully CD Projekt Red is able to keep up their morale and find fixes for these flaws in the near future. If only netrunning was as prevalent in our world, these fixes might be less taxing.
