Cyberpunk 2077 Dev Warns About New PC Mod Exploit

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 players may not have received the experience they had hoped for from the developers, but some committed individuals have taken it upon themselves to make improvements through the power of mods. That said, the team at CD Projekt RED have warned against the use of mods as there is a newly-found vulnerability that could lead to a security risk, but a fix is on the way.

Taking to Twitter, the Cyberpunk 2077 devs noted that players should use caution when downloading and using mods for the game. According to them, the problem stems from outside DLL (Dynamic Link Library) files, which could be used to access PCs and execute code on them. “We’ve been made aware of a vulnerability in external DLL files the game uses which can be used to execute code on PCs,” reads the tweet. “Issue will be fixed ASAP. For now, please refrain from using files from unknown sources.”

The vulnerability was brought to CD Projekt RED’s attention over on the Cyberpunk 2077 subreddit, where user Romulus_Is_Here made a lengthy post about what exactly is being exploited in the mods and how some are using that to their advantage. “The intention of this post is to raise awareness among the playerbase and not to incite panic,” they said. “Please, understand that due to the sensitive nature of the matter at hand, the old original post was vague in some regards, so I’ll try to clarify things to the best of my abilities.” You can check out the full post right here.

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, Xbox One, and new-gen consoles via backwards compatibility. Keep it tuned to Don’t Feed the Gamers as this story develops, and for other gaming goodness going on right now, check out the following:
