Captain Marvel: Official Look At Costume, Skrulls, And Young Nick Fury (GALLERY)
Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe reaches its climactic finale in the upcoming Avengers 4, but there’s one last stop before we snap back into the endgame: Captain Marvel. The heroine’s MCU introduction will take fans back to the era of the 90s, where grunge music, translucent gaming consoles, and an apparent war between the Kree and Skrull alien races were all the rage.
Featured from the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, we now have our first proper look at the interstellar proceedings in the form of several new images. The showcase most notably debuts the first look at Captain Marvel’s comic-accurate costume following a famously different version seen in set photos. We also catch a peek at Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) in her previous profession as an ace Air Force pilot as well as sporting some sweet 90s fashion.
There’s plenty more where that came from as we also got some new images of the cosmic side of Captain Marvel’s story. Marv-Vell (Jude Law) and the elite Starforce are looking green and mean, the shapeshifting Skrulls are beginning their invasion, and we see returning faces from Guardians of the Galaxy in baddies Ronan (Lee Pace) and Korath (Djimon Hounsou). Arguably the most stunning reveal is that of a de-aged Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), who looks as though he stepped out of a time machine from 1995.
Even with the universe-altering event of Avengers 4 on the horizon, Captain Marvel is looking to be a worthwhile detour along the way, especially as the solder will undoubtedly play a large role in the fourquel as well as the future of the MCU. As for what we can expect when she answers the call, it’s likely Ms. Danvers will be packing some serious heat as the character is considered one of the most powerful heroes in the Marvel universe. Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8, 2019 while Avengers 4 arrives on May 3, 2019.
