Borderlands Games Review-Bombed On Steam To Protest Epic Store Exclusivity

Borderlands 3 has undoubtedly made an impression among fans, with everything from the game’s debut footage to all the various tidbits dropped since the threequel was officially confirmed. Though, there’s one recent development that some fans have taken issue with: the game’s exclusive PC debut on the Epic Games Store.

Many have already vented their displeasure over social media, though it seems that extended bouts of caps lock and exclamation points haven’t sufficed as now every game in the Borderlands series is being review-bombed on Steam. Not just the the three main games, but also the series’ vast lineup of add-on DLC have been seeing a influx of negative reviews, most, if not all protesting Epic Games’ timed-exclusivity deal with Borderlands 3.

Raining down negative reviews seems to be a bit of a trend lately with Epic Store exclusives, as Metro Exodus went through a similar ordeal after joining the storefront earlier this year. The fervor around the Metro title was initially pretty ugly, but the title’s undeniable quality eventually tuned those downvotes into upvotes; the hostility toward Epic Games Store, however, remaining intact.

Perhaps the Borderlands games might also see favor return, but it doesn’t appear the Epic Games hate will dissipate anytime soon. Though there will be a time when the company will stop nabbing exclusives, a number of big games have been scooped up in the meantime, with anticipated inclusions such as The Outer Worlds and World War Z releasing on the platform a full year before Steam.

Borderlands 3 releases for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 13th.
