Borderlands 3 Reveal Trailer Breakdown (VIDEO)
The Borderlands 3 reveal trailer has officially been unveiled for the world to see, and fans have been losing their minds. The video released by Gearbox Software during their PAX East showcase features a multitude of classic Borderlands action as well as new Vault Hunters, fresh baddies, and even new settings that are a dramatic difference from what fans may be used to. That said, in my best impression of Overwatch’s Lucio, “Oh, let’s break it down!”
Before we jump into this breakdown, however, let’s go ahead and pump the brakes to take another gander at the glorious trailer itself. Oh, haven’t seen it yet? We got you covered:
Once you get past all of the shiny new awesomeness that is on the way, there is some incredibly interesting bits, some of which even confirm some recent leaks. As can be seen in the trailer below, there are some new antagonists in town. Handsome Jack is gone (he’s dead, get over it), and the new kids in town are the Calypso Twins, which was part of the leak.
These two consist of a brother and sister, the latter of which is a Siren, while the former is only Siren-like. If the leak proves to be true, the brother has possibly somehow obtained the ability to give people Siren powers, or the bond between twins is far more powerful than we could have imagined. You can see them in the image below.
The Calypso Twins are the leaders of a cult known as The Children of the Vault. This was included in the recent leak as well as confirmed by the reveal trailer. We can see what appears to be their home base of operations… actually, there might be two or three, or maybe it’s just one giant central base, as seen in the images below:
As for what else is new, there are four fresh Vault Hunters ready to take on The Children of the Vault as well as everything else that Borderlands 3 has to offer in terms of baddies. There have been a handful of leaks, including the recent one from above, that have (now) seemingly revealed all four of them accurately.
Of course, we don’t know if names and abilities are exactly accurate, but the looks are certainly there. Flak the Beastmaster looks like a homeless android and can summon various creatures to help him fight, Moze is known as The Bot Jock and can summon a giant bear mech, which other players will be able to ride, Zane is the older man who is sort of like Batman in that he uses gadgets and wealth to dispatch his enemies, and then there is the new Siren in town. No name is known at this time, but she is very melee-oriented and looks like a complete badass.
In addition to all of the new characters, there will be new worlds to explore. It has long been rumored that Borderlands 3 would feature space travel of sorts, and by the looks of the trailer, that appears to be true. Not only do we get a brief glimpse of some of these new worlds, the trailer itself even yells at us to “Explore the worlds!”
We can assume that Pandora is one such world, and Promethea will likely be another. However, beyond that, it’s anyone’s guess. Luckily, Gearbox was kind enough to include a few shots in the trailer that show off a world full of massive trees and almost jungle-like, one that features a bustling city full of skyscrapers, and one that might be Pandora, but could easily be a similar planet.
Of course, Borderlands 3 won’t be all new things, as some fan-favorite familiar faces will be returning to join the fight. Maya, who can be seen at the top of this post, is rocking some glorious long hair nowadays, Brick is sporting a mustache while belting it out on the sax, Tiny Tina isn’t exactly as tiny as she once was, Lilith seems to be in trouble of some sort that has maybe resulted in the loss of her powers, and there are a buttload more.
In addition to this, we can see Rhys, main protagonist of Telltale’s Tales From the Borderlands, hanging out with Zero and Tannis, who may be up to something in Borderlands 3. Either way, interesting times are ahead.
Guns. Does Borderlands 3 have guns? Over a billion. That’s right, there are over a billion guns in Borderlands 3, including guns with legs. Yes, you read that correctly. Guns – with – legs. And there are dinosaurs now. Dinosaurs that breathe fire, because it just wouldn’t be a Borderlands game if there were dinosaurs that breathed fire.
See that dinosaur? It breathes fire. That gun that appears to running? Yeah, it has legs. And look at all of those glorious guns raining down on our new Vault Hunters. One hell of a ride awaits.
There is only one bad thing about the Borderlands 3 trailer, and it’s not even that bad – there’s no release date. There isn’t even a release window or platforms we can expect to see the game on. However, what we do know is that more information will be coming on April 3rd, which is when a lot of Borderlands-related things will be happening. You can read all about that below:
