Borderlands 3’s Rhys Is Played By A Final Fantasy XV Voice Actor
With Borderlands 3 gameplay officially out in the world for fans everywhere to enjoy, it’s almost as if many people have forgotten about the fiasco that went down a couple weeks ago between Troy Baker and Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford. Well, it wasn’t really a fiasco, but more along the lines of conflicting statements. That said, Baker is out as Rhys in the upcoming game, but now we know that it’s a Final Fantasy XV voice actor taking over.
Ray Chase, who many of you may know as the voice of Noctis in Final Fantasy XV, will be the voice of Rhys in Borderlands 3. After the big gameplay reveal event, Chase took to Twitter to confirm that it is him who is playing “mustache Rhys” in the upcoming game.
I’m honored to announce that I play mustache Rhys in Borderlands 3.
I played all of TftB and greatly admired @TroyBakerVA‘s hilarious performance – his work is a true inspiration to me! I’m not a perfect voice match, but a new interpretation.
I sincerely hope you enjoy! pic.twitter.com/nbgESmBOXv

It’s certainly understandable that fans would be upset to hear Baker isn’t reprising the role, but slap a mustache on the character and replace him with another voice actor, and boom, people seem to be okay with the change. How many other mustachioed characters will we find around Borderlands 3 voiced by other people? The possibilities are endless.
Borderlands 3 is set to arrive on September 13th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Keep it tuned to Don’t Feed the Gamers as this story develops, and for other gaming goodness going on right now, check out the following:
