Bayonetta hit steam this month to the excitement of fans of the Platinum Games/Sega title. Fans who picked up the title might have a little something more to be excited about after receiving a tiny, but possibly significant update today. The small file may possibly be a teaser of a Vanquish PC release.

Steam forums were abuzz after the 22 KB file landed in the Bayonetta Extras folder. The content is an avatar depicting Sam Gideon. The protagonist’s arrival definitely suggests the possibility of a Vanquish PC release, however, it also leaves a lot to speculation.

Sega has been on a path of re-releasing their back catalog of console games with Bayonetta being the most recent. John Clark, in discussing the release of Bayonetta, was even quoted as saying that there was definitely “more to come” in their PC conversions. This lends itself even more to the possibility of a Vanquish PC release in the not too distant future.

Fans have been calling for a Vanquish PC conversion for some time now, having only ever found a home on Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2010. With a teaser hidden in their April Fool’s day 8-bit Bayonetta game for the PC release of the title itself, this could be indicative of a trend in easter eggs that suggest the next release from Platinum and Sega. This beloved third-person shooter would definitely have a home with fans on Steam if the companies decided to re-release the game on PC. Unfortunately, we will have to wait for more word on whether or not such a delightful prospect will come to fruition.
