Back 4 Blood Trailer Reveals Left 4 Dead Spiritual Sequel (VIDEO)

Back 4 Blood

The Game Awards 2020 are finally here and with it comes many new game announcements that have the internet a-buzzin’. One dormant franchise that fans have wanted to see return has been the classic zombie action game series Left 4 Dead. While original developer Valve confirmed in the past that Left 4 Dead 3 is not in development, the series’ original creators did reveal plans for a spiritual sequel of their own in the works. Since then, only concept art has been revealed, but now, a new Back 4 Blood trailer has finally been revealed, showing a clear and close following to the original franchise.

The Back 4 Blood reveal trailer, released on the game’s official YouTube channel, made its world premiere during The Game Awards 2020 live-streaming event. Underway by the independent Turtle Rock Studios, the game is being developed by the original creators of Left 4 Dead, with Warner Bros. helping as a publisher. The cinematic reveal trailer shows the zombie infection’s origins as a parasitic worm, making its way to human hosts who are then turned into zombies. We then see four survivors — three males and one female — armed with various types of guns attacking a swarm of zombies. A large zombie boss reminiscent of the Boomer from Left 4 Dead makes a grand entrance as the game’s title is revealed, confirming that this is indeed a brand-new franchise.

Immediately after this at The Game Awards, his crunchiness Geoff Keighley then introduced the new Back 4 Blood gameplay trailer. As seen above, the video shows the first-person shooter action as the four survivors navigate indoor and outdoor locations and help each other survive the swarms of zombies and providing snappy dialogue with each other along the way. We even see some massive zombies that are two or three stories tall. It is quite clear by the four-character story structure, variety of zombie enemies, and teamwork-based gameplay that Back 4 Blood is looking to stay as true to the Left 4 Dead formula as they possibly can. In a way, you might say, Left 4 Dead has been reanimated.
