Archie Gets the CW Treatment in First Promo for ‘Riverdale’ (VIDEO)

Riverdale

After 75 years, Archie, Jughead, Betty, and Veronica will jump from the pages of the beloved comic onto the small screen. The show, Riverdale, will be a modern take on the comics and will be airing on the CW Network. The network has released a promo trailer for the upcoming series.

Riverdale, named after the town in which the Archie comics take place, will be set during Archie Andrews (KJ Apa)  and the gang’s sophomore year in high school. While dealing with the angst of being “teenagers” on a CW show, the gang will also be involved in a murder mystery. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly at this year’s San Diego ComicCon, Executive Producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa stated:

“It’s definitely Archie, but a little darker, a little more complex and a little weirder than you might remember from the digest you bought at the supermarket. We’re saying it’s a little bit like Archie meets Twin Peaks.”

Staying true to CW’s teen-drama format, it seems that everyone in Riverdale will be a teenager with a 25 year old supermodel physique. Archie himself goes from the happy red-head to a grittier, brooding red-head with bodacious abs. Not much else has been revealed about the show’s plot, but you can probably count on some intense love triangle drama between Archie, Betty, and Veronica.
