Archer Creator Speaks About New Season, Reveals A Main Character Will Die

Adam Reed, the creator of the hilarious animated spy series Archer, spoke about the upcoming season 8 and what we can expect – including the death of a main character. Season 7 ended with playboy Archer face down in a pool and presumed dead and the first episode of season 8 takes place 3 months later, where he is now in a coma.

This season will be called Dreamland and is set in the classic noir style. With his butler Woodhouse gone, Archer dreams of solving his murder by being a detective in the 1940’s. Reed drew inspiration from the noir parodies called Murder by Death and Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid and he considers this season a tribute to the voice of Woodhouse George Coe, who passed away in real life last year.

“Archer in his subconscious has assigned people different roles in his imagination to take him on this adventure, and the fact that he is dreaming about the other Archer characters, to me, shows how limited Archer’s world is as far as people he knows. He doesn’t have a lot of friends—or any friends—he just has these seven or so other people in his life.”

All the beloved characters from the show are returning to play a role in Archer’s coma fantasy. Lana is a lounge singer, Pam is a dirty cop, Krieger is a bartender, Cheryl is an heiress, and Malory is a crime boss. With the art team having to create pretty much everything from scratch to create this 1940’s noir style, they must be happy to return everything to normal after this season… minus one character.

“There’s sex trafficking, there’s some privately advanced robotics, there’s some kidnapping, there’s drug abuse, there’s corpse abuse, there’s fake deaths, there are plenty of shootouts, and a lot of flashbacks… There were a lot of long hours and late nights for all the artists involved… I will say that not everybody makes it through this season. We may lose someone.”
