Anthem: New Details On Cross-Play, Gear Loadouts Revealed
BioWare’s next large-scale RPG Anthem is slowly trekking toward release, and the meantime sees the developer shaping the experience into what we’ll eventually get at launch. Recent weeks have seen various new tidbits about the game, such as its matchmaking and plans to combat toxicity, but now even more has been unveiled by BioWare executive producer Mark Darrah.
Answering a series of questions on Twitter (as he tends to do), Darrah acknowledged several new details about Anthem, including aspects regarding its dynamic gear system and the newly-attainable idea of cross-play. When it comes to sharing saves or playing alongside others between platforms, Darrah confirmed these features would not be shipped upon release, but didn’t exactly rule it out for the future.

Several fans were also compelled to query Anthem’s Javelin exosuits, specifically how their gear system pertains to equipping weapons. Confirmed was the ability to dual-wield any firearm in the game, whether it be doubling-up on pistols or sniper rifles. Also fleshed out were a few finer aspects of players’ potential loadouts, such as gear slot placement and whether or not Ultimate or Melee abilities will be swappable at launch (they aren’t).
If you want to have 2 of the same gun you totally can. https://t.co/HHMwXcdri7

In addition to your 2 guns, you have three gear slots.
Multi mortar goes in the shoulder, flamethrower in the arm. So you can equip both at once! https://t.co/7LBxrdHyab— Mark Darrah (@BioMarkDarrah) October 13, 2018
Ok technically Ultimate and Melee are also gear slots. But those won’t be changeable at launch https://t.co/eNjWwHGFpv

Anthem recently reached a big milestone on the way to release, achieving Alpha status as revealed by BioWare GM Casey Hudson. While a few of the above features unfortunately won’t be available at launch, fans can take solace in the studio’s expressed care being taken to balance story and gameplay as well as provide a complete experience from day one. Anthem hits PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on February 22nd, 2019.
What do you think? Are you confident Anthem will provide a worthwhile RPG, or is dual-wielding rocket launchers not enough to boost your confidence?
