Cyberpunk 2077 Dev Says Current-Gen Consoles Have “A Lot Of Juice Left”

Cyberpunk 2077

One of the bigger mysteries that has surrounded Cyberpunk 2077 is which generation of consoles it would be arriving on. CD Projekt RED has stated that they are developing the futuristic RPG for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as well as PC, but if it doesn’t end up launching for another couple of years, we might be seeing a next-gen game.

That said, CD Projekt RED is seemingly confident they’ll be able to get their upcoming title in before the PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s next Xbox, which is likely why the rumors are claiming fans will see a 2019 release. Cyberpunk 2077 Level Designer Miles Tost also seems optimistic for a current-gen launch, stating that the consoles of today still have plenty of fight left in them.

“Recently released titles have shown us that there’s still a lot of juice left in the current generation and I continue to be amazed by what’s being done,” Tost said when asked about troubles running on current-gen technology. This, of course, was in relation to rumors that Cyberpunk 2077 would not be able to be handled by the likes of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Tost also commented on how there has been a huge improvement between the current-gen’s first releases and what has arrived more recently. “Looking at the games released at the beginning of this generation and comparing them to some of the absolutely amazing looking recent titles, we can see quite an astonishing difference,” he continued. “Devs are a resourceful bunch — we figure out new and better ways of using and optimizing tools we work with all the time.”

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. No release date is known at this time, but we can only hope the rumors of a 2019 launch are true.
