Actor Adam West of Classic 1960’s Era Batman Dies at Age 88

Adam West

Star of the classic 1960’s era Batman television series Adam West passed away on Friday at the age of 88 after a short battle with Leukemia. The family released a heartfelt statement about their father, one that was candid and moving. Here is what they had to say about their father:

Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans’ lives. He was and always will be our hero.”

Adam West leaves behind an iconic legacy. He starred in films like Robinson Crusoe on Mars and The Young Philadelphians and TV shows like The Detectives and of course his role as the caped crusader in Batman (1966-1968). The campy, lighthearted series would set the stage for Batman’s portrayal until darker renditions of the character emerged in later years.

Lean years followed after the cancellation of Batman, leaving Adam West with a difficult career. It wouldn’t be until many years later that West would have the chance to play himself on another show, bringing him back to the limelight once more. Voice acting himself as the wacky mayor of Quahog on the animated show Family Guy, West would later get a chance to revisit Batman in the movie “Return of the Caped Crusaders”. He would also go on to voice Batman in the upcoming sequel, “Batman vs. Two-Face” that costarred William Shatner as Harve Dent.

Adam West

Adam West was born September 19th, 1928 as a resident of Washington State and was even a member of the United States Army. He leaves behind a legacy of film and voice acting work that will continue to touch the lives of those who enjoy it. He is survived by his 4 children and a throng of adoring fans.

From all of us at DFtG, our deepest condolences go out to the family of Adam West during this difficult time. He will truly be missed.
