Ace Combat Infinity Officially Shut Down, Developers Share Emotional Farewells

Ace Combat Infinity originally launched in 2013 under publishing company Bandai Namco as a free-to-play online combat flight simulator for PlayStation 3. After the announcement to end development and shut down its servers in December, the team provided a timeline of updates and changes to come before it would eventually lead to March 31, 2018 – the official closing of their doors. During that time, the Ace Combat team provided free tokens, credits, and other goods as a  gesture of goodwill.

Kazutoki Kono, brand manager of the Ace Combat series, made this statement last year that remains as poignant today as it did then:

To all pilots,

‘Thank you for all of your support!’ I’m unable to find appropriate words to express my gratitude for all of your support over the years. ACE COMBAT INFINITY has been in service for around 3 years and 8 months. If you take the Beta test into account, it has been 4 years.

With ACE COMBAT INFINITY, I wanted to create a “community” for players and fans of aircraft games. It was a big challenge for us and things haven’t always gone smoothly. However, thanks to your continued support, we have been able to gain invaluable experience and we believe that it’s the right time for us to end the service.

Once again, I would like to take this opportunity to express my extreme gratitude to all fans and players. In addition, I’d like to thank all project members for all of their efforts in creating this game. It has been 10 years since the last numbered title, but ACE COMBAT franchise will return in the form of ACE COMBAT 7: SKIES UNKNOWN. Hardware platforms may change, but PROJECT ACES will continue to create ACE COMBAT experiences for you, the fans. Keep flying and I’ll see you in the skies!

In a series of tweets from their Twitter account, team members shared a few lasting words to remember their work and fanbase by. They’re undoubtedly grateful for the support received over the years. However, it’s time they put down their helmets and look forward to a brand new adventure that awaits them on the horizon. We wish everyone the best of luck and hope to see new IPs from them in the near future.
