Cyberpunk 2077 Will Do What Red Dead Redemption 2 Couldn’t

Cyberpunk 2077

There’s no denying that Rockstar Games knocked it out of the park with Red Dead Redemption 2. The game has been praised for a number of things, but one of the biggest criticisms it has received is in regards to the quests and how extremely linear things can be, up to the point that even going off the beaten path during a mission just a little bit would result in a game over screen. Cyberpunk 2077 devs CD Projekt RED, however, will be going in the exact opposite direction.

According to quest designer Philipp Weber, the only thing that will result in any sort of game over screen is if you die. That’s it. This means that players will be able to carry out missions how they see fit. On a quest to protect somebody important, but feeling a rumbling in your stomach? Stop and grab a burger to satisfy that hunger. Night City won’t stop for you, so it will just keep carrying on, regardless of what you’ve got going on.

The whole reason behind this is that the Cyberpunk 2077 devs want each player’s experience to be unique. Weber noted that the team was always on the lookout for what the dumbest things a player could do are, and then would construct quests around these ideas to ensure players have the ability to do them. Oh, and that important person you decided not to protect just so you could stop to eat, they probably died. There will be consequences for this, but hey, you got a burger!

Needless to say, there’s going to be quite a bit to do in Night City, and by the sounds of it, the game is truly yours to play. Sounds good to us! Cyberpunk 2077 is currently without a release date, but is in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
