New Death Stranding Rumor Suggests That Players Can Permanently End Multiplayer

Gamers have been waiting patiently for the arrival of this year’s E3, which, as always, is sure to provide a plethora of new game reveals and interesting details on some previously revealed ones. One such example of the latter is Death Stranding, of which we can expect a trailer for thanks to confirmation by Hideo Kojima. Ahead of E3, though, it appears some new details have leaked regarding the upcoming title’s gameplay, and honestly it’s all pretty out there.

The new details surfaced from 4chan and were reported by The Nerd Mag, with the former being well known for some wild leaks in the past, some of which ended up being proven accurate. According to an anonymous user on the video game portion of the forum, the fate of the Death Stranding multiplayer will be left in the hands of the player community. Apparently once the community as a whole has reached the end of the game, they can choose to either ‘kill’ the multiplayer component or let it live on. Here are the hot points of the leak:

  • Tons of weapons, vehicles, gadgets and gear from multiple era’s, from clubs to single shot muskets to energy swords.
  • The baby is something that exists as a singular, it is not something that is instanced each time you boot up the game. The baby is a single entity. He is what is causing the time distortions and dimensions crossing over, which is multiplayer.
  • When the community has reached the end of the game, there will need to be a global decision made to kill the baby and end DS multiplayer forever, or allow it to live and continue the multiplayer experience.
  • Players in other games can do things at certain points in time that will have a butterfly effect in your game, this can happen both while you are actively playing or while the game is off. They can be positive or bad things (Stick or rope)
  • PVP can happen at any point if you and another player accidentally cross timelines while time traveling.
  • When you die that timeline is closed forever, significant things that encapsulate that Sam’s story in that timeline will travel with you to the ocean floor before you re-emerge and continue in a new timeline. As you and other players pollute the ocean, it will cause sea-life to die and wash up on shore.

As always, leaks should be taken with a grain of salt, though the part about Death Stranding’s multiplayer being a corroborative effort echoes actor Mads Mikkelsen’s comments in a recent interview, where he said that “the whole concept of playing hte game, as I understand, needs collaboration from different people from different parts of the world, which is also another level of fantastic-ness.”

Here’s hoping that the upcoming E3 trailer for Death Stranding will shed some new light on the title, and perhaps provide us (finally) with a concrete release date for the game.
