Battlefield V Will Feature Extensive Character Customization Options

Battlefield V

Battlefield V received its reveal earlier this month during a livestream event and the community is pumped for another entry to the series. There will be plenty of Zombie carnage, DLC, and a general onslaught of content heading our way. However, it seems choices in character customization options have been a hot topic as of late, wherein players have been inquiring the limitations and possibilities of character customization.

The official Battlefield Twitter recently responded to a bewildered tweet regarding one of the videos shown on the account featuring a female soldier with a prosthetic left arm, and wielding a cricket bat in the other. In response to the user’s commentary on the game’s lack of realism and historical accuracy, DICE said the following:

Not everyone is on board with “the more, the merrier” ideal however. Though video games aren’t typically recognized as an accurate depiction of history, there are some folks that have the undying hope that some developer would make that effort. Well, at the very least do their best to remain as historically accurate as possible. This is an especially pertinent issue for first-person shooter franchises like Call of Duty and Battlefield.

In other words, the community doesn’t seem all too happy with the diversity of choice for Battlefield V – just take a look at the heated responses to the tweet above. Though it’s widely recognized that women served during World War II, there are other features that fit a science-fiction narrative rather than the WWII setting DICE has promoted thus far. With that being said, DICE general manager Oskar Gabrielson mentioned that the game wasn’t meant to be an homage to this era. He stated:

Battlefield V is a homecoming for DICE as a studio—a return to the era that came to define the Battlefield franchise. But as nostalgic as we are about World War 2, we wanted to challenge the preconception of the era with an unexpected portrayal of this familiar setting. Our vision with Battlefield V is to let players explore new and untold sides of the conflict that shaped the modern world. The scale of each battle and level of immersion is unlike anything we’ve done before in Battlefield and players are in for an epic journey.”

Even though the developer has confirmed body types, gender, war paints and a variety of other cosmetic possibilities for Battlefield V, there’s no telling precisely how many options there will be until the game releases this October.
