WATCH: Final Fantasy XR Ride Footage Features Intense Battles And Adorable Chocobos
Last month it was announced that Universal Studios Japan would be hosting a special limited-time VR experience, titled Final Fantasy XR Ride. The ride makes use of an existing rollercoaster augmented with VR technology, placing its passengers directly into the expansive worlds of the Final Fantasy series. Now, ahead of the January 19th start date for the ride, a new promotional video has been released by Universal Studios Japan that gives us a better look at what to expect from the experience, as detailed by an adorable Japanese-speaking Moogle. Check it out below:

The Final Fantasy XR Ride is only available between January 19th and June 24th, as part of the Universal Cool Japan 2018 event. Those looking to try out the VR experience will gain a front row seat to the iconic battle between Cloud and Sephiroth, all from the comfort of your very own crystal-powered “Mog Ship”. Judging from the tail end of the promotional video, ride participants will also fly alongside Chocobos and explore some of the more exciting locations found within the Final Fantasy series, such as the Thunder Plains from Final Fantasy X.
If rollercoasters aren’t really your thing, there are also tons of Final Fantasy-themed food and merchandise available during the five month event. From Sabotendar ‘1,000 Needles’ Churros to Chocobo Popcorn Buckets, there are plenty of good eats to be had while exploring Universal Studios Japan. The available merchandise ranges from FF-themed cookie boxes to plush toy hats to T-shirts to stuffed keychains, so there’s really something for everyone here.
