Jurassic World 2 Writer Claims Movie Will Be a “Spanish Horror Thriller With Dinosaurs”
More news is beginning to trickle in for the much anticipated Jurassic World 2, sequel to the 2015 movie that served as both a fourth installment to the series and as an introduction to a new generation of wholesome folk that enjoy CGI dinosaurs eating people. Recently it was announced that series’ veteran Jeff Goldblum has joined the cast, which should make for some amazing interactions between Goldblum’s character and Chris Pratt’s. The latter actor is returning alongside Bryce Dallas Howard to reprise their roles as dinosaur trainer Owen Grady and former park chief Claire Dearing, respectively. The three stars are set to pit their wits against dinosaurs (and perhaps other humans) once more in what is considered to be “a Spanish horror thriller with dinosaurs”, according to Jurassic World 2 writer and producer Colin Trevorrow.
Yes, you read that right. Even though Trevorrow chose not to return as the sequel’s director, he instead stayed on as the Jurassic World 2 writer and producer, helping to build a film for new director J.A. Bayona. In a recent discussion Trevorrow had on the HappySadConfused podcast, he opened up about what to expect from the movie:
It is thus far my favorite creative collaboration that I’ve ever been involved in. J.A. Bayona is a completely different kind of filmmaker and thinker than I am, yet we do have a lot of things in common so I was able to craft something specifically for another filmmaker that I admire. I build a Spanish horror thriller with dinosaurs in it that I probably wouldn’t have built for myself.”
Understandably, some may feel concerned with the new direction the Jurassic series is going in. According to Trevorrow, though, he believes that the sequel is going to be even better than the first one, bringing in “new themes that have never been examined in a Jurassic movie before.” He certainly has is work cut out for him since, as it stands, Jurassic World is currently the fourth biggest movie of all time, reeling in $1.6 billion at the global box office.
“I gotta tell you man, I think that’s gonna be a better movie. I just do. It’s just deeper, it’s more character-based, it definitely leans into suspense especially in the second half. It does have the big action in the middle and there’s a sequence in the middle that I’ve been watching… I’ve started to see stuff come together and it’s just insane.”
The exciting new take on a time-tested formula can be seen on the big screen next year on June 22, 2018. So, thoughts on the new direction the Jurassic World 2 writer is taking the series in?
