Dead Space Remake Will Restore Content Cut From The Original Game

Those early rumors about the Dead Space franchise have turned out to be right on the money, with EA Motive recently confirming that the studio has set out to fully reimagine the first entry in the series. Creating the Dead Space Remake will involve recreating everything from the ground up, which in turn has lead the team to discovering plans the original dev team had in mind that didn’t quite ship with the rest of the game.

In a recent interview with IGN, EA Motive’s creative director Roman Campos-Oriola acknowledged that the team is working off the assets from the original Dead Space. Things for the most part have been pretty cut and dry, though found within these assets were some features and layouts that weren’t used in the final product. “We started with the original level design of the original Dead Space. What’s funny is that you can see some of the iterations that were made prior to ship by the team,” Campos-Oriola explained.

In the first chapter, you can see some corridors that they wanted to do first in a certain way, and then you can understand why they changed it for technical constraints or [some other reason].”

Campos-Oriola goes on to state that, while the team is utilizing the assets from the original Dead Space game, the studio is effectively rebuilding everything from the ground up. “Then in terms of visuals, sound, gameplay, everything, we are rebuilding all of these assets,” Campos-Oriola explained.

We are not porting them, it’s not uprezzing the texture or adding more polygons to the model. It’s really rebuilding all these elements, shooting all the animations, et cetera.”

The prospect of a current-gen Dead Space Remake is certainly an enticing one, and Isaac Clarke’s adventures aboard the USG Ishimura are certainly deserving of the work EA Motive appears to be putting in. Now, all we have to do is wait.

The Dead Space Remake is currently in development with no listed release date.
