Square Enix Has Greenlit Multiple Remakes For One Of Its Franchises
Not content to stay busy working on the most popular remake of this day and age, the folks over at Square Enix are apparently looking to have a set of remakes created for one of the company’s other franchises, though exactly which franchise this pertains to is currently a mystery. To that end, the Japanese publisher has entered into a deal with Forever Entertainment, the same folks behind the Panzer Dragoon Remake.
As revealed in a recent press release from Forever Entertainment (via ResetEra), the company has entered into a deal with Square Enix Japan to produce multiple remakes based on the same intellectual property. This deal entitles Forever Entertainment to over 50% of the revenue from the sale of the remakes on all platforms. Unfortunately we don’t know what this IP could be, with Forever Entertainment stating that this information will be withheld until marketing for the remakes begins in earnest. The only ‘hint’ that is provided is that the remakes will sport new visuals, “but the gameplay and scenario will remain the same as the original version.”
As for what franchise is getting remakes, the comment section of the ResetEra post is filled with earnest pleas from fans of Parasite Eve and folks that wish to see remakes for the earlier Dragon Quest games. That said, it’s unlikely that Square Enix would be willing to give up over 50% of its profits for remakes tied to some of its more popular franchises, so suggests like Front Mission seem a bit more realistic. Either way, it will likely be some time before we learn which mystery franchise is getting the remake treatment.
