Video Games have quite commonly provided tools for gamers to proudly display their creativity in unique ways, but often these tools also end up being places where pre-existing copyrighted material is re-purposed as well. Dreams, the massive creative tool for PlayStation 4, has allowed gamers to create software that utilizes numerous gameplay mechanics and genres. So far, fans have already recreated versions of Final Fantasy VII, Cyberpunk 2077 and Ghosts of Tsushima in Dreams. One fan even created a Dreams Mario digital model that saw wide usage by other creators, but now it seems that Nintendo has been responsible for this content being taken down.

Twitter user Piece of Craft recently shared a new update regarding their Dreams Mario content on their official Twitter account. Piece of Craft had created a digital model of Super Mario that many other uses had utilized to recreate classic levels from Super Mario games. It seems that this Mario model caught the attention of Nintendo themselves who requested for Dreams to have the physical model taken down on the basis of copyright infringement. This was confirmed to be Nintendo’s demand according to an email sent to Piece of Craft from the legal and business affairs Division of Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe.

While the other users that included the Mario model in their game creations are still available, this model can no longer be used by anyone for new projects, not even Piece of Craft. However, it seems that Piece of Craft still has a back up plan for this Dreams Mario model, but they will need some time to “put said plan into effect.” There’s no telling what this plan may be, hopefully its new use is able to evade Nintendo’s protective wrath. But you know what they say about Dreams, it’s never quite as it seems. Never quite as it seems.
