Uncharted’s Amy Hennig Launches New Game Studio With Skydance
Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series is often cited as an top-tier example of cinematic storytelling in games, a quality undoubtedly attributed to writer and director for the first three installments, Amy Hennig. The creative’s talents were sought after in recent years for Electronic Arts’ ill-fated Star Wars game, and while that endeavor ultimately didn’t pan out, Hennig is now getting a crack at some new projects with the formation of an all-new game studio.
As reported by VentureBeat, Hollywood studio Skydance Media has announced a partnership with Amy Hennig and former EA executive Julian Beak in starting an all new studio with the company. Having the blockbuster likes of Mission Impossible and Terminator under its belt, Skydance is said to have “gamers and non-gamers alike” in mind for it’s emerging game studio, with an emphasis on “new story-focused experiences” that take advantage of “state-of-the-art computer graphics.”
The studio’s debut is said to utilize devs from Skydance studios in Santa Monica and the San Francisco Bay Area, with Hennig and Beak leading the company’s push to adapt to an ever-changing “media landscape.” “The interactive media landscape is continually changing and Amy and Julian are creative and visionary leaders of this evolution,” said Skydance Media CEO David Ellison. “Together, we will create within this new sphere the same type of event-level entertainment experiences that Skydance is known for in features and television.”
“Julian and I are thrilled to be part of the Skydance creative team and excited to partner with Skydance to explore this new frontier in entertainment while pioneering new ways to tell immersive stories through technology,” Hennig said in a statement. “Our goal is to create inviting and innovative experiences with the high production values and visual fidelity that will set the standard in this new media landscape.”
