Overwatch And Overwatch 2 Will Eventually Merge Together, Says Director

Overwatch 2

Following the announcement of Overwatch 2, fans of the first title were left with many questions to ponder. After all, it would appear that the development team is going about things a bit differently when it comes to the sequel as much of the content will be shared. That said, director Jeff Kaplan has confirmed that the two titles will eventually merge together.

During a recent interview with Kotaku, Kaplan discussed Overwatch 2, its impact on the development of Overwatch, and many other things. When it comes to the two becoming one, however, this is what the director had to say:

There will be a point where the clients merge. We think this is important, especially as a competitive experience. The whole idea is to avoid fragmenting the player base and giving anybody a competitive advantage. If we’re playing in the same competitive pool, you’d better not have a better framerate just because you’re on a different version of the engine.”

Luckily, Overwatch 2 runs on the same engine as the first game, so the merging of the two likely won’t be entirely too difficult. Of course, what all of this will exactly mean will be seen whenever it actually happens, and with no release date in sight for the sequel, there’s no telling when that will be.

Overwatch 2 is currently in development with no release date. Keep it tuned to Don’t Feed the Gamers as this story develops, and for other gaming goodness going on right now, check out the following:
