New Feature On Steam Will Allow Local Co-op
Steam will soon be offering a new local co-op feature for PC gamers. The new feature is called Remote Play Together and will allow all the couch co-op fun you and your buddies had with consoles for your Steam games on PC.
The beta launch for local co-op on steam is set for Oct 21. Remote Play Together will allow users to launch a game with local multiplayer, co-op, or split-screen and invite friends through Steam. The news reached us via Hidden in Plain Sight developer, Adam Spragg, on Twitter. Here’s the Tweet:

Steam is coming out with a new feature called "Remote Play Together", allowing local-multiplayer games to be played online! Only the host needs to own the game, and can invite remote friends to play online!

As mentioned by Adam, only the host of the needs to own the game to share with friends via Remote Play Together, which is awesome. Furthermore, Remote Play Together is supposed to function with any Steam game with a split-screen feature, which is also very awesome. Imagine all the possibilities! According to the email sent by Valve to developers,
Any controllers connected to the second player’s computer will act as if they’re plugged directly into the first computer. The player hosting the game can also choose to allow or block inputs to their shared keyboard and mouse.
Assuming there are no snags in the launch process, Remote Play Together seems like a godsend. We can’t imagine a better way for Steam to keep its platform fresh and fun for gamers everywhere, especially with the above-mentioned features.
