A deal was struck between Hulu and Disney for the exclusive rights to stream classic Disney movies. This means Hulu is the only service allowed to host 56 of the plethora of films – animated and live-action alike, according to Variety news. Here’s the catch – they are only allowed rights to those 56 titles.

Any movies from 2016 and beyond, for example, will not be making it to their library at all. Movies like “Mulan”, “Pocahontas”, “The Nightmare Before Christmas”, and “Step Up” began streaming in December.

While Hulu may be getting these exclusive additions to their library, unfortunately, that will be all. As a matter of fact, Netflix will be taking on the licenses for new movie releases instead. Though it may seem like a two-timing contract, Disney’s relationship with Netflix have been on-going for some time now, says an interview with Ted Sarandos:

Disney and Netflix have shared a long and mutually beneficial relationship, and this deal will bring to our subscribers, in the first pay TV window, some of the highest-quality, most imaginative family films being made today. It’s a bold leap forward for Internet television, and we are incredibly pleased and proud this iconic family brand is teaming with Netflix to make it happen.

Business information and numbers were not disclosed to the public, but larger entities like the before-mentioned typically deal in the hundreds of millions. Amounts barely fathomable to those outside of CEO’s and the financial administration staff.
