Grand Theft Auto 6 Leak Suggests A Female Protagonist
Rockstar Games went in a drastically different direction for Grand Theft Auto 5, introducing three playable characters in a series that was for the most part accustomed to one – oft-times silent – protagonist. Now, it appears that the developer may once again be breaking the proverbial mold, as a new report suggests that Grand Theft Auto 6 will feature a female protagonist.
The news comes by way of a rather old report from The Know by way of Daily Star. According to The Know, an “inside source” revealed that Grand Theft Auto 6 – with an alleged internal development code name of Project Americas – will feature a bigger play area than ever before, which jives with a previous rumor suggesting that the title will feature multiple explorable cities. Given that the last game had players bouncing around between different protagonists, expanding that aspect to different, unique playable locations seems like the next logical step if Rockstar’s plan is to go bigger and bigger.
The other part of the report flatly states that the next game in the franchise will feature a female lead character. One important thing to note here is that we do not yet know whether or not the game will feature a single playable character, or multiple ones like in Grand Theft Auto 5. It certainly seems a bit more within the realm of possibility for a female character to be just one of two or three playable protagonists, especially given the franchise’s history of unfair treatment towards women. With E3 2019 coming soon, it is certainly within the realm of possibility that we’ll at least get an official confirmation that the game is in development.
