2K Sports Partners With Fitbit to Reward Players in NBA 2K17

2K Sports announced today that a new partnership with Fitbit was underway. Any gamer with a Fitbit can use daily fitness goals to temporarily boost your MyPLAYER attributes in NBA 2K17. So while you’re running, walking, shooting hoops in real life, or just doing your daily routine, you can work towards a little something extra in your favorite basketball game.

On November 25th players can start syncing their Fitbit trackers with their PlayStation 4 and/or Xbox One to start the program. The daily goal, set at the usual 10,000 steps is pretty attainable! Once users hit their mark, they can start up NBA 2K and add +5 attribute points to any of the categories available for the MyPLAYER. This means you can finally perfect that hook shot, even if only for a little while! The boost is good once a day for 5 games.

The post wen’t live on their Facebook page and Twitter earlier this morning, giving players something exciting to wake up to!

“The real world and digital world come together to enhance your NBA 2K experience and promote a healthy lifestyle!”

For those who are unfamiliar, Fitbit is a wearable device that tracks things like heart rate, steps, and other health related aspects depending on the device you have. It attaches comfortably to your wrist or clips to your belt and tracks your fitness progress as you go. One great feature of the Fitbit is that you can also join friends to fitness challenges that can be tracked using your smartphone. From personal experience, this makes reaching goals more fun and keeps you connected to people you care about in a more engaging way.

More and more we are seeing that the lines between gaming and reality are starting to blur as developers find more interesting and meaningful ways to connect with their audience. Encouraging players to get out and reach goals in order to get rewards is an excellent step in getting players to stay fit! Though, if you’re a Pokemon GO player, you may achieve 10,000 steps in an afternoon of collecting characters and battling gyms!

The partnership may entice people who aren’t gamers to try out games like NBA 2K and other titles as more companies continue to add these kinds of incentives. With developers becoming more aware of the need for players to remain active, and as VR becomes more prominent, it makes sense that the world of fitness and the world of gaming will continue to merge.

Are you excited about the NBA 2k partnership with Fitbit? What do you think about offering incentives for players to be more active? Sound off in the comments below!
