WWE 2K22 Announced With New Trailer – “It Hits Different” (VIDEO)

WWE 2K22 Rey Mysterio

Excitement has been in the air for this weekend’s Wrestlemania 37, with the two-day proceedings holding no shortage of historic and entertaining matchups. While the high-flying action took place on the Tampa stage this past Saturday, a surprise trailer also teased what’s next for the video game side of the franchise, presenting the first footage at 2K Sports’ upcoming WWE 2K22.

As seen in the trailer below, WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio can be seen sporting an impressive visual upgrade as he prepares for battle inside the ring. While it isn’t particularly lengthy, we also get an in-game look at some in-engine gameplay, which sees the masked luchador perform his signature 619 maneuver against Cesaro, sending the Swiss Cyborg tumbling back to his doom.

The trailer’s end notably touts the catchphrase ”It Hits Different,” likely referencing the poor reputation of the last entry in the series, WWE 2K20. The 2019 release was memorably littered with performance issues – not to mention a hilarious degree of glitches –that sent the in-the-works follow-up back to the drawing board as 2K re-examined the future of the series. While it meant missing out on WWE 2K21, the new tagline suggests WWE 2K22 is preparing to redeem itself with a super-powered new entry.

As of now, not much else is currently known about WWE 2K22, but 2K stated that more information will be “coming soon” at the end of the aforementioned trailer. Despite being a “work-in-progress build,” the footage definitely looks to be an upgrade when compared to previous releases, with Rey Mysterio looking pretty darn identical to his real-life appearance. Only time will tell if this new WWE game will actually hit different or beat to the same drum as before.
