Xbox Live Gold’s 12-Month Subscription Option Withdrawn By Microsoft

Xbox Live Gold's 12-Month Subscription Option Withdrawn By Microsoft

We’ve some unfortunate news for those that prefer to purchase their Xbox Live Gold subscriptions one year at a time. The folks over at Microsoft have nixed the 12-month subscription option for Xbox Live Gold, with the only remaining options being the single month or 3-month subscription options. The good news is that this is likely because Microsoft intends on revamping the service due to the upcoming release of the Xbox Series X, which is slated to arrive at the end of the year.

Microsoft initially kept quiet on the removal of the Xbox Live Gold 12-month subscription option, leading some to assume that this was somehow a fluke. However, a Microsoft spokesperson recently confirmed the decision to TA.  “At this time, Xbox has decided to remove the 12 months Xbox Live Gold SKU from the Microsoft online Store,” the spokesperson said. “Customers can still sign up for a one month or three month Xbox Live Gold subscription online through the Microsoft Store.”

It’s likely no coincidence that Microsoft is also shaking up its other gaming-related services. Just last week it was revealed that the Xbox game streaming service xCloud will be joining together with the Xbox Game Pass this September “at no additional cost to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members.” It’ll be interested to see the landscape of Microsoft’s various gaming-related services once the Xbox Series X finally arrives. Until then, Microsoft appears to be prepping itself accordingly.

The Xbox Series X is slated to release at some point this Holiday 2020.
