Xbox Game Pass Not Likely To Launch On Other Platforms

Xbox Game Pass Nintendo Switch

There have been rumors for quite some time that point to the Xbox Game Pass coming to platforms outside of PC and Xbox. There’s no denying that there has been plenty of divide between consoles for a very long time, with Xbox and Nintendo attempting to bridge those gaps as of late. That said, it would appear that the likelihood of Game Pass coming to PlayStation or Nintendo anytime soon is pretty low.

During a recent interview with GameStar (via Eurogamer), Xboss Phil Spencer discussed a number of topics, including the Xbox Game Pass and the probability of it coming to other platforms. While fans on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch would surely not mind having the service available to them, it would appear the reasoning behind the unlikeliness of it coming to those platforms is rather simple – they would not be able to receive the “full Xbox experience,” stated Spencer.

“In places where we have brought Xbox – mobile phones like we’re doing now with Project xCloud with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate [and] what we’ve done with PC bringing our full Xbox experience there – we know when somebody is playing one of our Xbox games there is an expectation that they’ve got their Xbox Live community, they have their Achievements, Game Pass is an option, my first-party library is completely there,” Spencer said.

The other competitive platforms really aren’t interested in having a full Xbox experience on their hardware. But for us, we want to be where gamers want to be and that’s the path that we’re on.”

Of course, this isn’t to say that Xbox Game Pass will never come to PlayStation or Nintendo consoles, but it certainly doesn’t seem like it will be available anywhere other than Xbox and PC anytime soon.
