FOX Officially Announces the Return of The X-Files for an 11th Season
Even though it is technically stated on the official FOX news blog as “a second chapter” of “The X-Files event series”, many will come to know the upcoming 10 episode installment as the eleventh season. Not only does Gillian Anderson confirm this herself, but she also teased fans with a Twitter post or two as well. Granted, it wasn’t too much of a surprise given the praise and love the previous season was hailed. Production is expected to begin this Summer and the mastermind behind the whole franchise, Chris Carter, will be the executive producer.

It’s equally crazy and not so crazy to think that a series which began in 1993 was revived in 2016 and a second installment is raring to go by popular demand. It is strange that FOX is calling these “event series” rather than seasons, but an entire season based on the original premise may be too big of a project for the stakeholders at this time. Not much else is revealed in ways details and storyline this time around, but President of the Fox Broadcasting Company, David Madden, had this to say about the reveal:
Iconic characters, rich storytelling, bold creators – these are the hallmarks of great TV shows. And they are some of the reasons why THE X-FILES has had such a profound impact on millions of fans worldwide. Chris’ creativity, along with the brilliant work of David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can’t wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of THE X-FILES.”
