New ‘Aliens’ Game In The Works As Fox Acquires Cold Iron Studios

In a bold move to join in on the video game industry, Fox has acquired game developer Cold Iron Studios to begin development on a new alien shooter. FoxNext Games, a division within the Fox Entertainment Group, announced the brand new partnership recently in hopes to deliver continuations of existent intellectual properties as well as original ideas. According to an interview with FoxNext Games president of studios, Aaron Loeb, it begins with an Aliens shooter:

FoxNext Games seeks to make games as important a part of Fox’s business as movies and television. Games will be the defining entertainment medium of this century, in our view.

Cold Iron adds a whole dimension of game development and play to our arsenal: long play-session MMOs targeted to PC and console gamers. The kinds of games Cold Iron develops will enable us to deeply explore the worlds of our franchises, starting with the Alien universe.”

Furthermore, Loeb said that Fox has created fantastic console titles in the past, referring to Simpsons: Hit and Run, and Alien: Isolation. He said that pairing a passionate team with a known brand can “unlock the greatest possibilities.” Though he hopes that fans aren’t too worried as to which platform FoxNext Games will be creating their games for.

Instead, Loeb said the teams want to tackle projects with the intent to express the world IP’s world in the best way possible, saying: “It has less to do with the platform than it does to do with how empowered the developer is to start with the question, ‘What is the best expression of this world as a game?”

Cold Iron Studios CEO, Craig Zinkievich, is equally excited about what the future may bring, saying:

It’s Aliens! We’re all excited to be working on such a storied franchise. To explore areas of the universe that fans haven’t gotten to experience, to put a game in that setting, is incredible. Having the full force of the world-class creatives, producers and business team at Fox behind the project allows us to take our plans to the next level.”

Cold Iron Studios was founded in 2015 by former Cryptic developers including Zinkievich, chief technology officer Shannon Posniewski, and creative director Matt Highison. As young as the developer may be, it looks like the partnership is hopeful in bringing video game entertainment to the next level.
