Valve’s Artifact Gets A Comic, Vows To Change Dota Forever

Valve’s online card game Artifact has officially launched on Steam, a spin-off title that has direct correlation with the Dota (Defense of the Ancients) universe. Revealing two comics right off the bat are two issues titled “Prelude” and “Call to Arms.” While the introduction of companion comics to video games aren’t a new concept, one particular parting piece Valve left with the community before the game’s launch is certainly a conversation starter.

According to Valve, the comic series for Artifact will “transform the world of Dota forever.” Check out the official statement below:

Artifact is coming to Steam in just two days! In the meantime, we’re happy to launch the first in a new series of Artifact comics, called Prelude. Artifact is more than just a Dota card game — it is a shared universe with a storyline that will deepen the history, expand the world, and change the fates of the heroes of both games.

We’ll also be releasing a second comic called Call to Arms on launch day, which sets the stage for a series of events that will transform the world of Dota forever. Don’t forget to come back and check it out.”

In addition to that jarring statement, Valve stated that the launch of Artifact and the second comic issue is “the first of many adventures and stories in the world of Dota” and it’s “only the beginning.” The studio is certainly stirring the pot with scarce details and plenty of hot words. Whatever it is the developers have in store, they’re trying to build the hype early. Curious to see what the comics are all about? Check out Prelude here and Call to Arms here.
