Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater Remakes Reportedly In The Works (VIDEO)

Spanning back to 1999, the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series was once one of the most popular on the market, the sports titles touting a fun mix of radical trick-based gameplay and killer skater-scene soundtracks. In the time since, the skateboarding series has adopted a much lower profile following the disappointing 2015 release of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5. However, it appears the series may now be gearing up for a return, with new reports suggesting a few remakes might be in the works.

According to prominent industry insider Sabi on Twitter, Activision is be exploring the idea of remaking the first two games in the Tony Hawk series: Tony Hawk Pro Skater and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2. Citing an internal contact, a prototype demo resembling the two classic entries were said to have been circulating at the company. The same information was said to be corroborated by Liam Robertson, a video game researcher known for programs such as Unseen64 and Did You Know Gaming.

While a report like this is undeniably exciting, it’s worth noting that none of this is confirmation that remakes are 100% on the way–especially considering the project’s ambiguous status as a “prototype.” However, another report from GamesRadar+ may add more credibility to this rumor. The outlet references a recently-discovered episode of skateboarding-focused podcast The Nine Club, wherein guest Lizzie Armanto briefly speaks about her recent appearances in video games.

Recalling her notable inclusion in Pro Skater 5, she also seemingly references another title from Tony Hawk that has yet to be announced, saying, “he’s coming out with another one, and I’ll be in that too.” Since the audio discovery was made, GamesRadar+ confirms all versions of the October 2019 episode have been edited to remove this exchange, though, the edit is still apparent in the video below at around 2:00:42.

While it’s important to manage expectations, all this evidence does appear to indicate a new Tony Hawk game at least seems possible. Whether this speculation results in a remake or a wholly new game is currently unknown, but it would surely be a shame to leave the long-running series in its current state. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 is widely considered a failure in terms of sales and overall quality, leaving the series in flux as the “Birdman” himself ventured elsewhere with his pro skater license. A new mobile-based title dubbed ‘Tony Hawk’s Skate Jam’ arrived in the last year for Android and iOS, marking the series’ first entry without involvement from Activision.

What do you think? Would you be up for a modern Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater remake, or would you prefer to have a new game entirely? Should EA just make Skate 4 already?  Let us know in the comments below and be sure to follow Don’t Feed the Gamers on Twitter and Facebook to be informed of the latest gaming and entertainment news 24 hours a day!
