Toejam & Earl Back In The Groove Releasing Later This Year (VIDEO)

Toejam & Earl Back In The Groove

The 90s were certainly a unique time for gaming, and now it seems that the gaming industry greatly wants to cater to the nostalgia of fans that grew up in that era. While some new games are looking to revitalize less beloved 1990s games like Shaq Fu, one very fondly remembered franchise is set to make a comeback later this year. Developer HumaNature has been hard at work developing Toejam & Earl Back In The Groove after a successful Kickstarter campaign, and now they have confirmed that the game will be releasing later this year across many platforms.

HumaNature’s Greg Johnson recently took to the Kickstarter page for the Toejam & Earl Back In The Groove campaign to reveal new information. Johnson confirms in the new update to reaffirm the previous promise of the game’s 2018 release year, with this fall being the current window that HumaNature is aiming for. The other big interesting tidbit involved Adult Swim Games, who has been attached to the game as publisher for quite some time. It seems that Back In The Groove will be a truly independent game, as Adult Swim is no longer publishing the title, citing a mutual decision between both parties.

The game looks to return to the point and click style of the original Toejam & Earl game on Sega Genesis, while only building upon the colorful art style and comedic hip-hop influences. Kickstarter backers who pledged more than $60 for the project will soon be able to access a closed beta for the new game. Hopefully the game sticks to its planned fall release window, so that fans of the series can get funky as soon as possible.
