The Order 1886 Developer Talks About The Possibility Of A Sequel

Order 1886

The Order 1886 released back in 2015 to a less than stellar reception. The gamewas set in a unique alternate history of 1886 London where an Order of Knights waged a war on half-human, half-beast monsters with the help of a mystical life-extending liquid and a variety of tech that was far beyond its time. While the game was praised for its visual and technical achievements, many critics questioned the re-playability claiming that a focus on production value over gameplay hindered the title’s experience. With a little improvement, a sequel could make for an incredible addition to the PlayStation 4 line-up  and it seems that the possibility just might be there.

The Order 1886’s Creative Director and CEO of Ready At Dawn Ru Weerasuriya recently took part in an interview discussing the game from its strengths and weaknesses, to hints to where the team might go next. When asked about the possibility of returning to the franchise for a sequel, Weerasuriya explained,

[The] IP was built with a lot of work behind it. Even before the release of the game, we put a lot of work on the foundations of why each of these characters are who they are, where they came from, what is behind the story. Not 1886, but what’s behind the story. We asked, ‘Where did it start? Where is it going?’ There is a lot of [story] that was already written, because we felt, again, writing a game and just kind of isolating it to just the story that it would’ve been was not enough for us.”

This is by no means a confirmation that fans will see a return to the dark and gritty world of alternate 1886’s London and the Order of Knights, but it also doesn’t mean a sequel has been totally ruled out by any means either. The groundwork is there for the developers to continue on if they so choose. As far as interest goes, there seems to be enough warrant thinking about a sequel, perhaps later down the road … but it makes you wonder just which feedback would be vital for a successful return.

The Order 1886 is currently available exclusively for the PlayStation 4. Have you played the 2015 monster slaying title?
