Telltale’s The Walking Dead May Return After “The Final Season,” Says Creative Director

San Diego Comic-Con 2018 has turned out some pretty phenomenal news and information on upcoming and current franchises, including the beloved Walking Dead series from Telltale. As the developers approach The Final Season for TWD, the loyal community sits on the edge of their seats in anticipation. How exactly will Telltale end the series? What fate awaits Clementine and her young charge AJ? According to an interview with creative director Kent Mudle, this may not speak to the end at all.

During a sit-down with IGN, Mudle opened up about the studio’s goals for our adored Clem and the ending they wish to create. The team wants to respect the journey the fans have been on since day one, and believes the ending should be a “satisfying” resolution.

Well, at the studio we’re being really respectful of the long history and the journey that the fans have been on with the series for so long. And we know everyone talks about the end of season one and the journey between Clementine and Lee and that bond. So basically, we know that the world has fallen in love with Clementine over all these years, so we’re basically trying to make her story gets an ending that feels satisfying, and a resolution.”

As for the future of the series, fans will be glad to hear that The Walking Dead may return. As for the relation between the fourth season’s label as “The Final Season” and the finality of TWD, Mudle was unmistakably vague and simply responded, “This season is the end of Clementine’s journey, and that’s as much as I’ll say on that.”

It wouldn’t be a grasp at straws to predict an extension of The Walking Dead franchise. As one of their most critically-acclaimed properties to date with a dedicated following to boot, who knows what lies in wait. Mudle’s response may imply another impactful, heart-wrenching journey forthcoming. It certainly wasn’t an outright denial.

Depending on the path Telltale has for AJ, could he be the next protagonist? Or perhaps someone else will make a reprisal? For now, that remains up to debate within the onlooking community.
