Telltale Games’ CEO Kevin Bruner Steps Down During “Aggressive” Company Growth
Yes, it’s true: Kevin Bruner is leaving Telltale Games after two years as their CEO, with co-founder Dan Connors taking the lead as head of the company in his stead. The news came from Kotaku, after an internal email was shared with the site regarding Bruner’s exit from the company. According to the email, Bruner stated he is stepping down as the company continues to grow. He wrote, “We’ve grown aggressively since Telltale’s inception, and now Telltale is bigger than I ever dreamed it would be. There are many possible futures for Telltale, and all of them are exciting and uniquely challenging. The time has come to pass the reins to someone that can better drive Telltale to the next level and realize all the potential that is here.”
Bruner didn’t give any other specific reason for why he decided to leave the company, so we can only assume the reason was he feels that Connors is better suited to handle the position. Dan Connors, who has had a long career in creative game development since his time at LucasArts and has also been involved in Telltale’s growth over the past few years, will be taking over the day to day operations of CEO while Bruner continues to work on the board of directors during the transitional period.
Jeff Stauffer, the head of communications for Telltale Games, offered an additional statement to Kotaku about Kevin Bruner’s departure, stating,
“Kevin has led Telltale over the past couple of years after he stepped into the CEO role for co-founder Dan Connors in 2015. With Kevin departing, Telltale is fortunate to have Dan here to step back seamlessly into the CEO role.”
This is definitely a comforting statement to hear. From the looks of it, the transition from one CEO to the next is going to be pretty smooth sailing, so while Bruner bowing out is a little shocking, it’s comforting to know that Telltale will continue to churn out great content for gamers.
