Super Smash Bros Ultimate Final Fantasy vii aerith tifa mii fighters

As recently hinted in a showcase at The Game Awards, the Final Fantasy series’ one-winged angel Sephiroth is soon set to debut in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as yet another playable DLC fighter. The character’s introduction was recently fleshed out in a livestream event with creator and game director Masahiro Sakurai, with a whole host of gameplay dedicated to the fan-favorite villain. On top of that, it appears there’s plenty more where that came from as even more Final Fantasy VII content is on the way in the from new Mii Fighter costumes.

As shown in a new trailer, several more heroes from the Square Enix series look to be joining the brawl as Mii Fighters, including Barret as a Gunner skin, Tifa as a Brawler, and Aerith as a Swordfighter. More than just a typical Mii, each character comes with outfits resembling their classic appearance from the original Final Fantasy VII. Dubbed the “Round 8” of Mii Fighter skins, the collection also sees the addition of a Chocobo hat cosmetic as well as the surprise debut of Geno from the classic SNES title Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.

As of now, these new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate costumes are set to be available alongside Sephiroth himself on December 22nd, with each going for the price of $0.75 USD each. While not full-fledged characters, this latest DLC is likely to go over well with fans as it allows the whole gang from FF7 to be reunited in time to battle Sephiroth once again. Of course, that’s not to downplay all the other content coming to the main game, with new music, themed-arenas, as well as the steely katana-carrying villain himself.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is out now for Nintendo Switch.
