Streets Of Rage 4 Announced With Glorious Retro Trailer (VIDEO)

Streets of Rage has been lacking a proper new entry in quite a while, with the series’ fist-flying brawls going quiet back in 1994. Despite the hiatus, the beat-em-up trilogy has endured popularity in modern times due to the titles’ solid gameplay and moody electronic tracks by Yuzo Koshiro. Fans thought they’d never see a another follow-up, that is until today’s surprise announcement of Streets of Rage 4!

After 24 years, Streets of Rage has indeed returned with a fourth entry in a joint effort between publishers Sega and Dotemu as well as developers Lizardcube and Guard Crush Games. The game’s reveal was announced with a glorious animated trailer showcasing series fighters Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding as they gather their rage for the fight ahead. We also glimpse a mysterious villainess with an electrified snake sidekick, further adhering to the over-the-top arcade experience we’ve come to expect. Check out the trailer and official description below.

Featuring hand-drawn visuals from the team behind 2017’s gorgeous Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap remake, Streets of Rage 4 builds upon the classic trilogy’s gameplay with new mechanics, a fresh story and a gauntlet of dangerous stages with a serious crime problem. Streets of Rage 4 recalls classic gameplay but it stands as an entirely original arcade-style romp thanks to the expertise of Guard Crush Games and Dotemu.

Whether players gang up with a friend or clean up the city solo, Streets of Rage 4 is a skull-bashing, chicken-chomping delight all set to a thumping soundtrack sure to get your blood pumping.

While the reveal was a treat for longtime fans, those hoping for further gameplay or release information may have to wait a bit longer. No launch window or platforms are currently listed as of yet, but the creatives assure updates on Streets of Rage 4 will arrive in due time. Developer Lizardcube took to Twitter to confirm as such, promising more answers in the future.
