Stranger Things 2 Goes All Out 80’s Sci-Fi with New Cast Members

It’s no secret that Netflix’s original series Stranger Things has become an instant cult classic, harnessing the thrill of classic 1980’s Sci-Fi and horror elements to create an almost addictive fictional realm. Well it looks like we are about to get a double scoop of 80’s style Sci-Fi Horror with season two’s beefed up cast.

It has been confirmed that Sean Astin, Paul Reiser, and Linnea Berthelsen will all be joining the cast of Stranger Things for a second season. For actor Sean Astin, who has starred such films as The Goonies and Lord of the Rings, being cast in Stranger Things is very much in keeping with the aesthetic of some of his more famous roles. Similar can be said for Paul Reiser due to his role as Carter Burke in the 1986 original Sci-Fi Horror film Aliens, as well as other well known 80’s films.

Stranger Things

Anyone who has seen Stranger Things can attest, the show writers seem most likely draw upon inspiration from films such as The Goonies and Aliens to create a fantastically mesmerizing world of retro Sci-Fi suspense. We don’t have exact plot points yet for the follow up season to Stranger Things however it is possible to piece together a general idea of what the setting is going to look like based off the characters of our newcomers.

Astin will play Bob Newby, a kind-hearted former nerd who went to high school with Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) and Sheriff Hopper (David Harbour). Bob is now the manager of the Hawkins RadioShack.

Reiser is Dr. Owens, a Department of Energy muckety muck who is tasked with “containing” the events of the previous year.

Berthelsen, a Danish newcomer, will play Roman, an emotionally damaged young woman who suffered a big loss as a kid. Roman isn’t a Hawkins resident, but she is connected to all the spooky stuff that happened at the Department of Energy lab during the first season.

Stranger Things

The second installment of Stranger Things is set to be debuted in 2017 on Netflix. Until then we’ll just have to re-watch the first season, or perhaps dive into the films from the 80’s that inspired the whole project.
