Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Review Round-Up (VIDEO)
Having previously put out entries in the Battlefront series, EA made the stark shift toward a traditional single-player experience with their latest Star Wars game Jedi: Fallen Order. Heading the project with Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment certainly seemed an inspired choice to do so, with what’s been revealed giving the impression of a truly action-packed Souls-like set in the galaxy far, far, away.
Throw in an intriguing post-Jedi premise, a trusty lightsaber, and a steadfast robot buddy and such a title could easily have the makings of a potential Game of the Year candidate. However, what are the critics saying? Well, it looks like fans can rest easy, as emerging reviews suggest Jedi: Fallen Order features a fabulous gameplay experience from Respawn. Though, it appears the game’s less-than-compelling story and semi-rough presentation may only passably tide players over between missions.
Game Informer — 88/100
“Respawn Entertainment’s maiden voyage with Star Wars is largely a success, but it’s a little rough around the edges.”
IGN — 90/100
“Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order makes up for a lot of lost time with a fantastic single-player action-adventure that marks the return of the playable Jedi.”
The Verge — “Something of a miracle”
“Given the state of of Star Wars games over the past decade or so, a good-but-not-amazing single-player adventure is something of a miracle. Those issues I mentioned can be frustrating, but they’re also worth putting up with given how much Fallen Order gets right: the intense and open lightsaber combat, the clever puzzles, the intricate level design, a universe just dripping with history and intrigue. This is what I want from a Star Wars game — and Fallen Order gives me just enough to satiate that long-ignored need.”
Twinfinite — 80/100
“Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is the Star Wars game that fans have been crying out for years now. While it doesn’t do anything new, its clear inspirations from Dark Souls and Tomb Raider have helped to create an epic, sprawling adventure that’ll have you ready for more the moments the credits roll. If only there had been more of it, because once I started, I didn’t want to stop.”
Wired — “Resonant”
“Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order looks and often feels like a generic Star Wars adventure, but Respawn elevates it nearly every step of the way. One doesn’t necessarily expect a story about space wizards and evil empires to feel resonant, but this does, and it does so in a way that not many pieces of big-budget media do. Fallen Order is a game about confronting your past and fighting for the future when you don’t know if that future is ever going to get better. That feels timely, and wrapped around that idea, the rest of the game just sings. If Fallen Order was connected to the Force, it would radiate power”
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. What do you think?
