Square Enix Exploring Other Options Following Cancellation Of E3 2020

The coronavirus is continuing to have widespread effects across the video game industry, with events and conventions shutting down to ongoing concerns regarding the virus. One of the more recent victims, E3 2020, has caused the likes of Nintendo and Microsoft to explore other options for game announcements, and now, it appears that Square Enix has much the same thing planned.

The folks over at Square Enix recently took to Twitter to provide an update with how the Japanese publisher stands following the recent cancellation of E3 2020. “We support the ESA’s decision to cancel E3 2020 and send our strongest heartfelt appreciation to everyone that works tirelessly to bring unforgettable games and experiences to E3,” the statement reads. “We understand this is disappointing not only to our respective developers and publishers, but also to thousands of fans who venture from afar to celebrate games at E3. We’re right there with you.”

Square Enix goes on to state that the publisher’s lineup is “stronger than ever,” and that the company is “exploring other options” to share what was initially intended for E3 2020. With the Final Fantasy VII Remake out in less than a month’s time, it’ll be interesting to see what else the publisher has planned moving forward.
