Excitement is mounting over Insomniac Games Spider-Man PS4 exclusive title, and the stress on the developers is mounting too. It’s not a secret that game development can be incredibly stressful, nevermind crunch. Fan expectations can send the pressure through the roof to offer an experience that resonates with an audience of a long existing franchise.

While the team at Insomniac is hard at work, Creative Director Bryan Intihar sat down with Push Square to talk about Spider-Man. The interview touched on a lot of different topics, giving fans a peek at what’s happening behind the scenes. When asked about whether or not they felt any pressure to include or exclude a particular character, Intihar had this to say:

100%, yes. I think that everybody has their favourite character and supporting characters and villains, but at the end of the day, some people will be super happy and some people will be wishing there was someone else in there. We had to do what was best for the experience, [both in terms of] the story we wanted to tell and in terms of a gameplay challenge. So we just tried to find those best matches. It’s a pretty big cast so hopefully we got a lot of peoples’ favourites.”

While not everyone will be pleased with the turnout, the list of characters is pretty expansive anyway with Electro, Kingpin, Mister Negative, Rhino, Scorpion, Shocker, Vulture, Peter Parker, Mary Jane, and Miles Morales already a part of the cast. Fans will get to find out if any other characters are being kept a secret when Spider-Man releases exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on September 7th.
