Xboss Wants OG Xbox Emulation and Game Pass on PC – “I Want People to be Able to Play Games!”

OG Xbox

One of the more exciting things to come out of Microsoft’s presentation at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo may not have been the unveiling of the Xbox One X (formerly Project Scorpio), but rather the reveal that OG Xbox games will begin heading the way of backwards compatibility. Xbox 360 titles have already been available to enjoy on the One and One S for nearly two years, but it would seem that Microsoft is looking to take it back to where it all began. OG Xbox backwards compatibility is expected to roll out this year, and it will kick things off with Crimson Skies. While that is great to hear, what if they were to bring that same feature to PC?

Thanks to a recent interview, we now know that it is Xboss Phil Spencer’s intentions to do exactly this. When asked if fans could potentially see the emulation on PC, he replied with a simple “Yes.” After that, he went on to speak about the technical side of things and that it will be easier to emulate OG Xbox titles due to the x86 chip that console was running on. Spencer admits that there’s a bit of work ahead of them, but he believes it will happen in the future. He also says “I want people to be able to play games,” and it doesn’t seem he is too concerned on which platform they are played.

The Xboss was also questioned on the recently launched Xbox Game Pass and whether or not that would make its way to PC. After all, it would make sense with the recent increase of attention to the platform. “I’ve said I want to bring Game Pass to the PC. The team doesn’t love it when I pre-announce things, but I definitely want to bring Game Pass to PC,” he replied. Essentially, the team doesn’t see the value due to a small catalog available on PC, but Spencer assures everyone that he is “putting a lot of pressure on the team to go get enough content lined up to do something on the PC, and then make sure we have a long-term commitment to build.” Needless to say, the Xboss would really like to see OG Xbox titles and the Game Pass on PC in the future.

What say you, gamers? Would you enjoy seeing OG Xbox games on PC? Do you believe offering the Game Pass to computer gamers would be a good idea?
