Solid Snake Actor Lashes Out At EVO’s Tekken 7 “Joke”

Solid Snake Actor Lashes Out At EVO's Tekken 7 "Joke"

For those blissfully unaware, EVO made a bit of a whoopsie recently when, during the Tekken finals at EVO 2019, a video of a codec call from within the Metal Gear universe featuring Solid Snake was used to seemingly suggest that the legend himself would be coming to Tekken 7 as a new character. This turned out to be nothing but a joke, which EVO clarified in subsequent tweets.

“Just to clear things up, the Snake cameo video that we showed during Tekken finals was our idea of a little joke,” the tweet said. “It was not intended to imply a character reveal, and was done on our own, without consulting Bandai Namco. Sorry for any confusion!” While the apology seemed genuine, the situation itself has attracted the ire of Solid Snake voice actor David Hayter, who made his disappointment known in a withering tweet in response to EVO’s apology. Here’s what he said:

One does not simply make David Hayter come out of his cardboard box without good reason. As such, his response to EVO was understandably dripping with malice, likely in part because EVO’s stunt got people genuinely excited for a possible Solid Snake cameo in Tekken 7. The idea is certainly within the realm of reason, especially since the roster now contains both Noctis from Final Fantasy XV and Negan from The Walking Dead. We can only hope that EVO has learned its lesson.

Tekken 7 is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
