Uniqlo Unveils 25 Awesome Shirt Designs in the New Nintendo Uniqlo Collection
The franchises in the Nintendo library of games are certainly not short of having representation in merchandise these days. We have seen the big N lend their mascot heroes to cross-promotional tie-in campaigns from a line of shoes with Vans to a variety of plush toys and related accessories with Build-a-Bear. Now, Uniqlo has unveiled their new Nintendo Uniqlo Collection of 25 t-shirts, representing their most trending franchises including Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Splatoon and more. However, what makes this different from other Nintendo merchandise is the involvement fans had in the creation of these shirts.
The new shirts have been unveiled on the Uniqlo website and the designs certainly seem quite stylish. The feature that makes them unique is the fact that they were all designs submitted by Nintendo fans as part of a contest for this new collection. Over 16,000 designs were received, the highest amount ever for a Uniqlo design contest, and the winners were selected by none other than Super Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto himself. The top three winners can be seen above, but all of the top 25 designs will have their shirts available for purchase on Uniqlo starting May 19th.
Not only are the t-shirts fashionable, but it’s nice to see franchises like Animal Crossing and Star Fox that don’t normally get a ton of official clothing merchandise finally received some representation.
